Amitabha Buddha

Om Amideva Hriih

Amitabha (his name means infinite radiance) is an archetypal Buddha who is supremely important in far eastern Buddhism. He represents love, and he is pictured as being the rich, warm color of the setting sun.His mantra is a variant of his name, meaning "Infinite divinity".The final h in hriih has the effect of producing an echo sound. So the syllable is pronounced hrii-hii.

The Qualities of Dewachen

In general, to enter a buddha-realm, one must have removed even the most subtle of obscurations, kept very pure samaya, and have attained the first bodhisattva level. So, for ordinary beings, it is very difficult to enter a buddha-realm. However, due to Amitabha's strong wishing-prayers, anyone who makes a sincere wishing-prayer to go to Déwachen can be reborn there, even though one has not purified unvirtuous karma nor liberated oneself from the disturbing emotions

I pray to Uddiyana Pemakara (Guru Rinpoche).
Gracious root guru, hold (insert name or this being or these beings) with your compassion. Lamas of the root lineage, guide (insert name or this being or these beings) on the path. (Recite three times)
Bodhicitta, the excellent and precious mind -
Where it is unborn, may it arise;
Where it is born, may it not decline,
But ever increase higher and higher.

Guru Rimpoche

Guru Rimpoche's name mantra

Om Aah Hum Vajra Guru Padma Siddhi Hum

Padmasambhava was a historical teacher, who is said to have finally converted Tibet to Buddhism. He was a renowned scholar, meditator, and magician, and his mantra suggests his rich and diverse nature.

Om Ah Hum, as we've seen, have no conceptual meaning. Often they're associated with body, speech, and mind respectively (i.e. the whole of one's being. So there's a suggestion that we are saluting the qualities that Padmasambhava represents with all of our hearts (and minds, and bodies). Vajra means thunderbolt, and represents the energy of the enlightened mind. Guru, of course, means a wise teacher. Padma means lotus, calling to mind the loving and compassionate nature of enlightenment. And Siddhi means accomplishment or supernatural powers, suggesting the way in which those who are enlightened can act wisely, but in ways that we can't necessarily understand
