How to Help Stop Cruelty to Animals

Sample Letter opposing Promoting
Breeding Companion Animals - Alternative Letter

Dear :

I am writing in reference to [describe the promotion of companion animal breeding that you are writing about].

The Humane Society of the United States estimates that 12 million animals are killed every year in shelters throughout the U.S. because there are not enough homes for them. This estimate does not include the animals that die on the street, or the animals which are waiting for homes in "breed rescue" programs, or the animals languishing in pet shops. The conclusion is simple -- there are too many companion animals and breeding more should be considered an embarrassment, not something that is applauded.

Shelters are filled with homeless animals, including purebreds, waiting for a second chance. Please do not endorse the breeding industry. To do so is only contributing to an already overwhelming problem.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
